Use Your Triggers as Gateways to Peace!

How can we begin to move freely through the world and not be caught up and affected by other people’s choices, words and actions?  I am a leader in a spiritual community so I work with large groups of people as they are healing and growing into their empowerment so I want to share what I have learned.

I have observed in myself and others in our growth process that as part of the human condition we tend to be affected or allow ourselves to be affected by other people’s actions.  If someone says something or does something that hits on a ‘trigger’ we become upset and may go into story about it with others, making it more of a drama than it needs to be, wasting our energy.  How can we stop this cycle?  We cannot control other people so are we destined to be upset every time someone does something that we don’t like?

The answer is we can stop this cycle and be free! We need to realize that where ever we go, there we are.  Meaning if you have an unresolved issue, pattern or belief about the world this will shape your very world.  You will take your set of issues with you and it is not an outside force that is doing anything to you but it is simply responding to the patterns you have set up in your realm and energy field. We are creator Gods and Goddesses responsible for our own world and our own life. If we have a filter on our perceptions this filter is going to affect our perception of reality.

If something happens and it upsets you and you know yourself and your boundaries the healthy thing to do would be to express it right then and there or if time does not permit you can discuss it the next time you see them.  If you don’t yet know yourself and/or what they did triggers something stems from an unconscious trauma or a past pattern/belief system you have created then this may cause a re-wounding of that earlier occurrence for it to hopefully be healed.

In this case, this reaction could be used to create more of the same cycle in the future OR you could use it as a window and a gateway to knowing yourself.  You can choose to reflect and find the first time this came up for you and realize that it is not the other person but it is actually you and your history that has magnetized this experience.  Once you heal it and clear it you are now FREE.  The next time a similar situation comes up you may still have the neural pathways in your brain directing you to the OLD reaction/response but you also have the greater possibility of now not reacting and realizing you do not have to be upset about this sort of thing anymore.

We have to step away from the victim mentality that others are doing things to us and realize that we usually have a wound or a weakness and the energy has to come into the opening.  Nature abhors a vacuum and if a gateway is open the energy will come in.  Other people are not going to be able to always read your mind and know what phrase or behavior they are doing is going to offend or trigger some random wound or hurt that you may uniquely have.  I have triggered people just purely being of service to them.  They have assigned intent to me that I do not have.  It is fascinating to hear what people perceive and because I have cleaned myself up quite a bit I can listen with curiosity and detachment whereas years ago I would have taken it personally.

This is the goal.  To be balanced within the center of your being where your true self is.  How do we find the center quicker? I have found actively pursuing a path of light that includes serving other people has excelled my progression.  The light comes in when I am serving and shows me very clearly my darkness, my shadows and I even have been embarrassed and humiliated with this showing but it motivated me to heal.  If I was hiding away in my home and playing it safe I would not see my triggers and would have no idea where my weaknesses were.  We are only as strong as our weakest link.  The goal, if you want to be at peace and if you want world peace as well, is to be like the Buddha.  In his final test he had negative forces shooting arrows at him metaphorically and they just could not get in.  There was no wound, no imbalance that any outside force could latch onto to sway him from his center.

In the meantime as you work towards inner balance, you can look at those things that trigger you or offend you that other people say to you as the potential for pure GOLD.  Be grateful that you have found a weakness that you can now heal.  Take the shadow, the prima materia as Alchemists call it and transform it into GOLD.  The GOLD is now strength and power to decide to make a choice.  Before this pattern was unconscious and just ‘part of you’ and ‘how things just are’.  Now, with this knowledge and understanding you can gain wisdom in choosing to react differently next time.  It takes owning your part in the situation.

We can either choose to be a victim or an Empowered God or Goddess.   Let’s clean ourselves up so we can see things as they are in each moment, not colored by past experiences.  Let’s choose freedom, clarity and let’s take responsibility for our wounds.  They are ours to heal not anyone else’s responsibility.  This is all good news because it means we can find peace within!
