The Service in Knowing Thyself

Do you know yourself well?

Why is self-knowledge important?

Who are you?

What is your purpose?

What does it mean to “Know Thyself”?

So many questions! To learn about something, you have to ask questions. To know yourself, you have to ask yourself questions.

So, back to the questions—what if we all came to this Earth with a special mission? Whether you believe it or not, wouldn’t it be nice if that were true? If each of the 70 billion people on this planet had a unique purpose and each of those missions fit together like one beautiful, massive puzzle. Wouldn’t that be a miraculous feat?

Yet, if we look around, there is so much chaos, destruction, prejudice and abuse in this world. That vision of humans comprising a beautiful puzzle might seem out of reach, and if not impossible to attain, very far off. But why? Do you ever stop and ask yourself why the world is the way it is? Even people who love each other harm one another. It is absurd. Why is this? Are some people just bad people? Are we products of an unjust society, or victims of a harsh, unfair world?

It might feel like that sometimes, but that is not the case. Sadly, many of us have forgotten that we are born to live in joy, health, harmony and prosperity. We have forgotten that we are responsible and able to create this for ourselves, no matter our upbringing. But we are afraid we are not good enough or not capable, or blinded by trauma. We have forgotten our strength and power. We have forgotten who we are.

In order to live in joy we must remember! To remember, we must peel back the layers of conditioning, labels, and attachments to who we think we are. We must relax the grips of fear that bind us and heal our trauma. But how?

It always starts with a first step, and then another, and another... But what is the first step? Well, if you’re in the dark, turn on the lights. And if you’ve never been somewhere before, ask someone who has. The Modern Mystery School is an ancient Wisdom Tradition with a 3000+ year old lineage of adepts who have been asking themselves these questions, discovering who they really are, and living out their missions here on Earth. The School is a world wide organization, with people spreading Light and transforming their communities for the better all over the globe.

So what’s the first step according to The Modern Mystery School?
Life Activation.

The second step?
Empower Thyself Initiation.

Each adept in the school has taken these two steps on their path of progression and self-knowledge. These holy processes add more light and positivity to our body, mind and spirit. They empower us to become more aware of the habits and patterns that have been holding us back, and give us more power to heal and let them go. Through this path of awareness, we begin to see fear for what it is—a system of limitation keeping us from our joy, preventing us from creating harmony and prosperity. As we find our joy, we discover more of who we really are and what we are here to accomplish. Metaphorically speaking, we begin to mold and polish the shape of our unique puzzle piece, which will help the wold live in harmony.

So, Who are you? What is your purpose?

Keep asking yourself these questions. The answers may change over time, but with persistence, and guidance from those who have gone before, you will discover who you really are. You will experience joy. You will want to share your joy and live your purpose. To Know Thyself is to do a great service to the world.

Connecting with Elementals

Dragons were always prominent throughout my life.  I was born during the year of the Dragon.  In high school, they were our mascots and we proudly considered ourselves "The Dragons".

When I really look, I see dragons everywhere -- carved or painted on furniture, embroidered on materials, tattooed on people's skin -- representing great strength, wisdom, courage, bravery, and fierceness.  However, that's all it seemed to be - a representation.

I didn't put much thought into its origin, accepting them as mythical creatures that were revered and woven into stories around the world through the ages.  Fast forward to when I joined the Modern Mystery School and learned of the classes offered.  The courses seemed so out of my realm of comfort and understanding, yet I still signed up because I was curious.  I realized later that something within resonated strongly.

Elemental classes are a rare offering because there are only a handful of instructors that teach them.  Dragon and Unicorn Magick were the first classes to reach the San Francisco Bay Area.  A few years later, Elvin and Faerie Magick came to town.  Last year, Mer Magick made its debut here.

Some tools used to connect
On the way to attend each course, I felt a sense of hesitation and questioned why I was even taking it.  However, in class, in the moment, I sensed an awakening of some sort.  These beings are real.  They exist and hold such light.  The wisdom they impart is phenomenal.  It's an honor and joy to be able to connect with them on such a pure level.  The elemental classes themselves are rich with history, energy, and understanding.  Towards the end of class, rituals are then handed down to apply, as you wish, into your daily life to help connect with the different beings.

At first, I did the rituals in the comfort of my room.  However, after taking Mer Magick, a group of us decided to do rituals together at the beach.  We realized that being out in nature helped us feel more in tune, so much that now a group of us make it a point to meet weekly to do rituals together in various nature spots in the Bay Area.

It's been nearly a year of meeting weekly and the experience has only gotten better.  Communication is clearer with the elementals and our group has become closer.  Getting to know the different tribes, beings, and their culture has expanded our hearts.  Most of all, it's humbling to be aware of their presence and learn to exist in harmony.
